Why do people find it so hard to believe that biofeedback therapy can help children suffering from ADHD? From what I get in the article Weighing Nondrug Options for A.D.H.D. from the New York Times the author is very supportive of biofeedback therapy.
One interesting option is a form of biofeedback therapy in which children wear electrodes on their head and learn to control video games by exercising the parts of the brain related to attention and focus. Research has suggested that the method works just as well as medication, and many children report that they enjoy it.
These two sentences neither support nor put down the option that many parents are choosing for thier children to help combat ADHD. It is not widely used, and therfore unknown to the mass public because of the lack of leadership in the medical industry to increase it's mainstream use. it takes a certain type of doctor to take the risk and use a cutting edge tool in their practise. Utilizing it in combination with language deficit treatment, social skills and therapy sessions, biofeedback therapy is one of the most successful patient care systems in the medical field.
Kids love this new type of medicine. It's interesting, interactive and futuristic. It is what kids are expecting all treatments to be like in the future. Learning how to properly control your brainwave patterns so you can function and live life the way you want to is what children expect to learn. Biofeedback therapy can provide that to children so that they can learn to their full potential.
